Roula Hammer '19 Takes Honors in Speech Competitions

Roula Hammer '19 is a high-achieving student and a highly accomplished young woman. This year, she added a new talent to her resume when she discovered her gift for spoken word.

The Fourth Form student took top honors in the ClopperMichael Post 10 annual oratorical contest held on January 25th in Boonsboro, MD. Participants presented rehearsed speeches, eight and 10-minutes in length, covering an aspect of the U.S. Constitution, followed by shorter, unrehearsed speeches on a selected amendment. She won with her oration entitled, "The Runaway Jury." "This prepared speech discusses the 7th Amendment right to a trial by jury in civil, federal court," according to Hammer.

Although Hammer discovered her passion for oration this year, she is no stranger to public speaking. Learn more about this well-rounded student in the Review magazine, page 7, available online: http://www.stjames.edu/uploaded/Review/2017_Review...
