This coming Friday, March 31st, renowned organist Michael Smith will perform in the Chapel from 7:30-8:15 pm. This accomplished and engaging musician will improvise on favorite Saint James hymns in addition to playing a varied program of music for organ, and music adapted (transcribed) for organ from other genres.
Mr. Smith is an excellent improviser, and is an expert on spirituals and gospel music in addition to more traditional church music and organ repertoire. He is also an accomplished choral director.
On Friday, he will play during morning chapel. He will also work with the choir during 7th period
Mr. Smith is Chair of Performing Arts at The Shipley School and Organist/Choirmaster at The Church of the Good Shepherd, both in Bryn Mawr, PA. He earned graduate degrees in organ and conducting at Yale University and has performed recitals and accompanied and conducted choirs on tours throughout Europe, Africa, Russia, and South America.
