Organist and Choirmaster

Saint James School, an Episcopal boarding school in the Anglo-Catholic tradition located just outside Hagerstown, Maryland, seeks to appoint an organist and choirmaster for the academic year 2024-2025 to begin in mid-August.

Interested candidates should be accomplished organists and choral conductors capable of teaching and conducting a chapel choir of c.24 singers comprised of ninth through twelfth graders.  The position also includes instructional duties in the Fine Arts Department:  keyboard, voice, and or an academic subject during the school day.  The choir rehearses four times and sings two choral eucharists (one on Sunday) every week.  It also carries a heavier load before Christmas and during Holy Week and Easter and travels 2-4 times a year.  Duties in the chapel include playing organ for Sunday morning Eucharist and daily chapel Monday through Friday, direction of Compline each Sunday evening, liturgy planning in consultation with clergy, and oversight of maintenance of the pipe organ and piano in the chapel.  Every faculty member advises 5-7 students, partakes of meals with the community at lunch and dinner daily, and is assigned to a weekly duty rotation, so shares in the general supervision of the School.

Salary is $35,000 - $60,000 plus housing, utilities, meals in term, and full benefits.
