Varsity Cross Country
Coach: David Hutchings

The Varsity Cross Country teams started the season with a deep girls' team with many younger runners and a small boys' team that ended the season with nine dedicated student-athletes. We were fortunate to have returning Sixth Form students like Rodrigo Tejado, Camilla Power, and Audrey Johnson who helped connect our team and maintain some of the team’s traditions. We were led by our captains: fifth formers Drew Weisgerber, Chris James, and Elise Bamforth; fourth former Evie Brauner; and Power.

The team’s collective and individual goals focused on improvement with the hopes of beating Goretti, placing high in some races, and completing a race where everyone ran the full 5k. Our season started with the girls finishing second in their division in the Interstate Classic. At different times in the season, Brauner, Bamforth, and Power all finished first on the team with third former Gabby Robinson a consistent fourth. The boys' team was paced by fourth former Moses Warui and Weisgerber. The boys' team struggled with depth, but Warui finished with a season best of 19:38 for a 5k and led the team in all but the last race where Weisgerber finished first.

Some season highlights were our runs along the canal, group bonding runs, our early-season trip to Nutters, and our late-season relay runs and dinner with Coach Salisbury. With only a few runners graduating, we look forward to summer workouts and a strong season next year filled with continued improvement.
