Varsity Football
Coach: John Root
The 2021 football season can be described as legendary. The team finished with a 7-1 record, including a last-minute come-from-behind win that earned them the MAC Championship, the first outright in 26 years, and more memories than can be written on a page.
Sixth Form student-athletes competing for the last time on Turner Field include Povilus Cereska, Josh Drabczyk, Dexter Du, Daniel Peacher, Sean Rowe, and Ryan Scott. The team was victorious over local competition Clear Spring and Williamsport High Schools. They got through the tough MAC schedule with wins over Maret, Potomac, Flint Hill, and Sidwell Friends. They closed their season with a victory over the Kiski School.
The victory at Sidwell was a thrilling late rally for the win. The team was down by 10 points with under three minutes to go. Miraculously, the team not only fought back to tie the game as time ticked away but won the game in overtime to earn the MAC title. The team's lone loss came at the hands of Paul VI, 43-42. The Saints led that game by 20 points but could not hold on for the win.
This group of young men came together as a team through the grueling season. Their efforts proved the quality of a Saint James student-athlete. The team returns many starters for next year and should be a contender for the league title again. The coaches and all those that attended Saint James games were proud of our team.
