Varsity Girls' Soccer
Coach: Marc Batson

The 2021 season brought its share of challenges.  Our numbers were few as we did not have many girls participate, and as injuries accumulated we found ourselves having to rethink how practices would be run.  Players were called upon to fill roles they were not expecting.  Even with minor physical ailments, our players could not get the rest they needed as everyone was vital for every practice and every game.  The fortitude that this group showed was amazing, though.  From those who had never participated in organized soccer before this season, to those who participate on the club level, each team member demonstrated a resilience that was remarkable.

While our wins were few, this was a squad that could play outstanding soccer when they set their minds to it.  Our season highlight actually rests in a loss.  In a game against a talented Allegany High School squad, we held on to a tie at 1-1 until the last three minutes, when Allegany scored on a well-delivered shot.  Allegany kept the 2-1 lead, but the level of play by our team was inspirational.  The team’s passing and play development showed all that this group was capable of accomplishing, and with a strong core returning next year, we hope to build on what we saw in this particular game.

Despite the struggles that we faced, what stood out the most was the team’s spirit.   A positive mindset was always present even in the midst of a loss or when injuries stacked up.  This was a team that supported each other by finding little “victories” in each teammate.
