Coach: Diane Crampton
With last year's season cancelled due to COVID, it was hard to know what to expect from the Varsity Volleyball team this season. A whole new coaching staff, one returning player, and a slew of fresh new faces made up the Saints this year. The team consisted of four upperclassmen and seven underclassmen and could best be described as young and inexperienced.
In a rebuilding year, the Saints worked hard and figured out that being young didn’t mean bad and being hard didn’t mean impossible.
The Saints put together a solid year, compiling an 8-8 record. The team placed second at the McConnellsburg tournament and finished the season playing in the IPSL Championship against Mercersburg. Although they came up a little short, it was a great accomplishment to make it that far.
The highlight of the season was two victories over crosstown rival, Goretti. The first match-up was a huge comeback win for the Saints. They walked into a packed house and started off a tense match by losing the first two sets. However, they didn’t fold under the pressure. The Saints kept their composure and continued to fight, going on to win the next three sets to claim the victory. The second match-up was in the IPSL semifinals, in which the Saints claimed a decisive win in three straight sets.
Looking ahead, the Saints will only lose two players to graduation. A strong nucleus of players will return to build off of what they accomplished this season.
