From Shepherdstown, WV, Nirmal Singletary is one of 22 graduating sixth formers who started at Saint James in the second form.
“We have such a close-knit group of friends who have been at Saint James for five years,” he said. “It’s such a community here.”
Nirmal was an All-MAC member of the varsity wrestling team that won the MAC Championship as well as the Maryland Independent State Championship. Wrestling was one of many new activities that he got involved in at Saint James, in addition to lacrosse, serving as the photo editor of the yearbook, and taking Latin.
“I would never have seen that [taking Latin] coming, but I actually really enjoyed it,” he said.
Nirmal will attend Davidson College in North Carolina next year, where he’s interested in studying history and economics. On Prize Day, he received the Prize for Excellence in Modern European History.
His advice for new students is to enjoy the time with your friends.
“I think as much as you feel bogged down with the amount of work, extracurriculars, and sports, just enjoy the time here with your friends and get out and do stuff with them,” Nirmal said. “Take advantage of the opportunities you have here because once you leave it just won’t be the same atmosphere anymore.”
