Kerfoot Society for Distinguished Faculty

Honoring Mr. Camp

Ted Camp has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the academic year. For 31 years, Mr. Camp has been a beloved history teacher, coach, dorm parent, and mentor at Saint James School. He has served as the History Department Chair since his arrival, Senior Master since 2017, as faculty advisor to the Honor Council, and as a lay eucharistic minister and faculty advisor to the ushers in the chapel. He coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, still coaches JV boys’ soccer, and teaches five sections of history, including AP European and AP World. He served as the Dorm Head in Claggett Hall for seven years and then moved to Rich Cottage and then Stonebreaker House, where he still hosts nacho nights for his advisees, ushers, and prefects.

Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of history and animated teaching style, his duck boots, his bowties, his impeccable manners, his witticisms, and cheerful greeting to everyone he passes, he is loved by three decades of Saint James students, staff, and faculty, and he will be greatly missed next year. Father Dunnan describes him as “our most dependable volunteer and the perfect example of a boarding school master. When it comes to the languages of love, Mr. Camp is 100% a doer and a giver, and he never says no. He certainly deserves his retirement, and we can only be very grateful to him for everything that he has done for Saint James for so long.”

Acknowledging Mr. Camp’s remarkable and commendable service to Saint James, the Alumni Council has elected him to the Kerfoot Society for Distinguished Faculty, to which he will be inducted at this year’s Alumni Dinner. Attendees are encouraged to wear bow ties in his honor, and you can RSVP for the dinner online.

If you have any kind words or memories that you would like to share with Mr. Camp, you may do so here, and he has asked that any gifts in his honor be made to the Dunnan Endowment Fund for Financial Aid.
