A 6’6” native of Fairfax, VA, AJ arrived at Saint James to join a talented basketball squad. He saw value in adding another sport to his repertoire.
“The two-sport requirement helped me with my main sport of basketball in two ways,” said AJ. “My first year I was recovering from surgery and was able to use one of my sport seasons doing rehab while lifting. My senior year I ran cross country which enabled me to get in great shape for the basketball season.”
AJ was a four-year letter winner on the SJS basketball team. He was an integral member of a team that was co-champions of the MAC and champions of the IPSL. He was selected Second Team All-County his senior year and earned the Most Improved Player award.
AJ continued his education and playing career at Shepherd University.
“Saint James prepared me for college in that I was never just a student,” AJ said. “At any time in the year I had many responsibilities outside of my school work, main sport, and social life; a great way to learn balance.”
After four years at Shepherd, he tallied 1,519 points to rank 14th on the Rams all-time scoring list. His 804 career rebounds rank him 7th, while his 273 career assists place him 17th on the Shepherd all-time list. AJ earned first-team All-MEC honors for two consecutive seasons and he averaged team bests of 15.9 points and 8.6 rebounds in 2017-18. He was also named the Shepherd Senior Male Athlete of the Year for 2017-18.
AJ graduated from Shepherd in May 2018 with a degree in Business Administration. He signed to plays professionally with the Reading Rockets of the National Basketball League (NBL), a Division I team in England.
