The Athletic and Arts Departments offer interscholastic, intramural, and team operations opportunities in all three seasons (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Second form students must complete 2.5 credits reflecting expected participation and confirmation in a school cocurricular activity each of the three seasons. Students in forms three through six must earn 2 cocurricular credits per school year and are required to participate in a minimum of one sport per year. Second form students are required to participate in a minimum of two sports for the year. Students will earn one athletic credit per sport that competes interscholastically at the junior varsity or varsity level.
All students who are not in a credit earning activity must still be involved in a supervised afternoon cocurricular activity each afternoon, Monday through Friday, which includes, but is not limited to robotics, publications/sports media, strength and conditions, and athletic training support staff.
Any new student to Saint James is required to participate on an interscholastic team during the Fall of their first year of enrollment unless the Athletic Director approves a prearranged plan for that student to participate in both the Winter and Fall seasons prior to the Fall season beginning. A meeting with the Athletic Director should be scheduled upon written request for a First Year Student Sports Exemption. All other exemptions will be considered during those times when the sports season signups are conducted. Students wishing to seek an exemption from their sport requirement may apply in writing to the Director of Athletics who will then schedule a meeting and have sole discretion when determining if the request is acceptable.
