The Professional Football Writers of America has named Houston Texans receiver John Metchie, III (SJS Class of 2018) as the winner of the 2024 George Halas Award. The Halas Award is given to an NFL player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed. Metchie returned to play in 2023 after missing the entire 2022 season with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He displayed tremendous determination and we were thrilled to see him back on the field this year!
