On January 30 through February 1, some of the country's most elite high school basketball players will take the court in western Maryland for the 34th Saint James Invitational Tournament (SJIT) sponsored by Abacus Sports Installations and Tarkett Sports.
The 2020 SJIT will feature an eight-team field that includes the defending National Champions from IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL) as well as the #1-ranked team in the nation, Montverde Academy (Montverde, FL). Talented squads from Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix, AZ), National Christian Academy (Fort Washington, MD), Legacy Early College (Greenville, SC), Riverdale Baptist School (Upper Marlboro, MD), Scotland Campus Sports (Scotland, PA), and Saint James School (Hagerstown, MD) round out this highly-competitive field.
"Saint James is very excited to once again host the SJIT and bring such a talented pool of teams and players to our campus," said Scott Barr, Saint James School Athletic Director. "The 2020 SJIT promises to showcase three days of highly entertaining high school basketball."
The SJIT will give fans the opportunity to watch 25 players ranked in the top 100 of their class by 247Sports.com, including #2 Cade Cunningham (Montverde), an Oklahoma State commit, and #6 Jalen Johnson (IMG Academy), a Duke University commit.
"The best thing about being a part of the SJIT is connecting local kids with the highest levels of basketball," said Kevin Breslin, Saint James basketball coach. "As a kid growing up here in town the SJIT was my favorite event to attend each year. I hope kids today get to have that same experience watching the best play on the beautiful new Alumni Hall court at Saint James School."
Saint James School looks forward to hosting the tournament in the revamped Alumni Hall, on a new specialty sports flooring installed over the summer by tournament sponsors, Abacus Sports Installations and Tarkett Sports.
"Abacus Sports and Tarkett Sports are excited to establish a new flooring tradition in the basketball world with the 2020 Saint James Invitational marking the first time a major national tournament is played on Tarkett's sports vinyl," said Hayden Delia of Abacus Sports.
The SJIT is an annual basketball tournament that began in 1974 and continued for an impressive 29 seasons, before ending in 2002. By the 1980's, the SJIT brought four national and four regional teams together to compete. After a long hiatus, the tournament resumed in March of 2016. Players who have participated in past tournaments include RJ Barrett (New York Knicks), Tracy McGrady (Houston Rockets), Jerry Stackhouse (Dallas Mavericks), and Justin Robinson (Washington Wizards).
The SJIT will start on Thursday, January 30 and will conclude with the championship game on Saturday, February 1.
