Greetings from the Dean's Office! Dear parents and guardians, When we returned from the long weekend, a group of sixth formers was so excited to share that there were only 40 days of school remaining, including weekends! As this letter is being sent, we are now at 30 days remaining until Commencement. As this week marks the start of AP exams for many of our students, the end may be in sight, but there is still much to do. Nevertheless, our students are looking forward to summer and the opportunities it brings. For our sixth form students, this time may be bittersweet as they try to make the most of their remaining time together. Alumni Weekend was a wonderful experience for all. There were celebrations for the alumni on campus, sporting events, an art show, chapel, as well as the dedications of the Pohanka Fine Arts building and the site of the Turner Athletic Center, which will be breaking ground soon. Our students were able to participate as tour guides, choristers, readers, and artists. The ice cream truck parked in the Senior Circle was a highlight for students, faculty, and alumni. The alumni who returned to campus were happy and excited to be back after a few years away. I saw many students speaking with alumni and heard from even more students who shared that they were now looking forward to their own alumni weekends in the years to come. This week is teacher appreciation week. On behalf of the faculty, I want to thank all the students, parents, guardians, and families involved in making this week so special. I feel truly spoiled by the gifts and goodies. A special moment was heading to breakfast Tuesday morning and seeing our names beautifully written in chalk outside of the Refectory by a group of students. The generosity is incredible, and we feel very fortunate to work in this community. The next major event in student life is our Prom on Friday, May 20th. After a half day of classes, students in fifth and sixth form along with their guests will ride by charter bus to Musket Ridge Country Club. There will be dinner and dancing. Students not attending prom will have a fun evening on campus with different events planned. While there are many more events on campus in the arts and athletics as well as final exams, it is time to start looking ahead to June 5th. All boarders may leave campus at 1:00 PM on June 5th after Commencement. Any flights booked for that evening should allow students time to attend Commencement and travel to the airport. All local boarders must leave that day. Distance boarders may stay on campus overnight but should plan to leave campus by 10:00 AM the next day to allow faculty and staff to meet and prepare the dorms and classrooms for summer. Students may apply for summer leave on Reach beginning today. Anyone needing a ride to the airport on the 5th or 6th should share the flight information as soon as possible. Sincerely, David Hutchings Dean of Students |
