Greetings from the Dean's Office! Dear parents and guardians, As we move through our second to last week of classes, the reminders that the school year is ending are all around us. In chapel, Father Montgomery talked about traditions and shared some of his connections to the sixth form class. Father Dunnan talked about his best friend growing up who seemed to win every prize at the end of the year. In his talk, he highlighted the need to celebrate our friends as they win prizes and recognize what is deserved and earned by others even when we also feel deserving of recognition. The end of the year is a time for happiness and reflection, not jealousy and pride. This week also saw Leighton Cheuk, Jen Diaz, Shay Diaz, Noah Kotz, Quint Maynard, Chelsea Pepprah, Tres Starkoski, and Mr. Jacob Kesten all confirmed by the Bishop of Maryland (see above photo). It was wonderful to witness and celebrate their faith and commitment. We were also able to honor nine students and three faculty members who were inducted into the Cum Laude Society on Wednesday (see photo below). Congratulations to sixth form students Caly Ferguson, Ryan Scott, Chaltu Watkins, and Emily Zhang and fifth form students Lily Cucuzzella, Ruoyan "Yanny" Gao, Xiaotao "Teresa" Shang, Tianhao "Harry" Wei, and Andrew Weisgerber. I also had the honor of being inducted along with Ms. Barry as we were previously inducted in high school and college. Dr. Weibel was inducted in appreciation of his extraordinary contributions to scholarship in his time at Saint James including his ability to support our highest achieving students in their academic pursuits. This Friday, our students will attend prom at Musket Ridge Country Club. We have a half-day schedule with classes ending at 12:15 PM. Students may check out after class to get ready with a parent. Anyone wishing to check out after school should go to the Refectory and check out there. We ask that they not call the duty phone as check out will be hosted in that location. As a reminder, students may not drive themselves to campus, so anyone leaving to get ready will need to be returned to campus by their parents or hosts. There will be mocktails, hosted by the Parents' Association, and photographs for those attending prom beginning at 4:00 PM on the Kemp Hall patio. At 5:15 our charter busses will depart. Prom will end at 10:00 PM and we will return to campus. Looking ahead, students have been asked to enter their summer plans in Reach by this Saturday and to share flight information as soon as possible. With all students leaving campus, Time Advantage (our transportation service) will be busy, so we need all pick-up information early. Next weekend will be a closed weekend as we move towards exams and the end of the year. Thank you to all of the families for their support of their children during this busy time on campus. We look forward to seeing many of you in the coming weeks. Sincerely, David Hutchings Dean of Students |

From the School Nurse For those students who will be returning to campus for the upcoming school year, summer is a perfect time to schedule the required physical exam with their primary care physician, as well as to ensure that all of the required childhood immunizations are up to date. We recommend that these appointments are scheduled to take place in June or July, as this will allow you to meet our health document submission deadline of July 31. For your convenience, I have included links to the required documents below: - Preparticipation Medical History form
- Preparticipation Physical Exam form
- Concussion History form
- Maryland Department of Health Immunization Certificate (please see the Maryland Vaccine Requirements here)
- TB Test Result Form (for international students only; please read the form for details)
- Medication Administration Authorization form (if your child routinely takes medications)
- Emergency Action Plans (only complete the one(s) applicable to your child; do nothing if these do not apply to your child)
a. Allergy Action Plan b. Asthma Action Plan c. Diabetes Medical Management Plan d. Seizure Action Plan
COVID-19 Vaccines: Students will be required to be up to date with their COVID vaccines for the upcoming school year. Please note that in order to be considered up to date with the COVID vaccines, one must have completed their primary series AND received their COVID-19 Vaccine Booster when eligible. Therefore, please ensure that your child receives the required COVID vaccine booster when eligible. COVID-19: Now that our campus is mask optional, we still encourage our campus community to remain vigilant regarding their health. We ask that everyone on campus report the onset of COVID-like symptoms to the Infirmary, wear a mask, and promptly take a Rapid COVID Test in an effort to minimize the overall impact to our campus. Students and employees who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 may take a Rapid COVID Test at least 5 days after the last known exposure to the positive person, or sooner if they become symptomatic. Tests are available in the Infirmary. | The Weekend Ahead This weekend has two of the biggest events of the year. Students in fifth and sixth form and their guests will attend prom on Friday. On Saturday, over a hundred of our boarders will head to Hershey Park for a day of fun before turning their attention to final exams. Please see the full schedule for all of the details. |
