Greetings from the Dean's Office! Dear parents and guardians, Last Friday, Saint James held our annual prom celebration for students in the fifth and sixth forms as well as their guests. Musket Ridge was a beautiful venue which provided for many lovely pictures with friends. There was a nice dinner followed by cupcakes and several hours of dancing. Some students danced all night while others spent time with friends outside enjoying the evening. The group of faculty chaperones determined we had collectively attended more than 50 proms as students or teachers. With so many students experiencing their first prom, it was nice to see the event anew through their eyes. By the end of the evening, everyone seemed very tired when we returned to campus. While prom marked the start of our weekend, Sunday night was punctuated by our spring varsity sports banquet. Our varsity athletes were treated to a special dinner as well as remarks by Mr. Lachut and Father Dunnan. The full list of award winners is included below. On Monday, we celebrated our sixth form athletes who have chosen to continue their athletic careers in college with our Next Level Day. Congratulations to the following students on their commitment to continuing their athletic endeavors at the next level: Povilas Cereska, basketball at Kenyon College; Colin Greene, wrestling at Franklin & Marshall; Bryce Kilmer, soccer at Shepherd University; Molly McFillen, Field Hockey at Dean College; Daniel Peacher, football at Juniata College; Sean Rowe, lacrosse at Providence College; and Tres Starkoski, lacrosse at Newberry College. All of these students have put in a great deal of work during their time at Saint James, and we are excited to continue to support them from afar. Outside of athletics, we were treated to several wonderful performances this week beginning with the choir concert Wednesday afternoon. After classes ended, we listened to the choir's performance of Vivaldi's Gloria. Today, we had a special chapel service for Ascension Day where our new Sacristans, Senior Choristers, and Senior Reader were installed. Outside of prefects, these are some of our most significant leadership positions at Saint James. We thank these students for their service to the school and community and congratulate them on their installations. The full list is below. Looking ahead, our sixth form musicians will be performing tonight in the Senior Showcase. Finally, our senior one-act plays will take place this Saturday at 2:00 PM. The students singing, playing, performing, and directing have put so much time and effort into their pieces this spring all while playing sports, keeping up with their academics, and now preparing for final exams. Exams begin next week after a day of condensed classes on Monday. Please support your children by encouraging them to use their time wisely, eat well, and get their sleep. Our sixth form students will spend next week in a variety of seminars on life in college. Through it all, I hope our students can find time to spend together and enjoy their last time together this year. Sincerely, David Hutchings Dean of Students |

From the Academic Office EXAM WEEK ATTENDANCE FOR DAY STUDENTS Day students will be required to sign-in and sign-out on exam days (May 31-June 3) in the Academic Office with Mrs. Martirano. |
From the School Nurse For those students who will be returning to campus for the upcoming school year, summer is a perfect time to schedule the required physical exam with their primary care physician, as well as to ensure that all of the required childhood immunizations are up to date. We recommend that these appointments are scheduled to take place in June or July, as this will allow you to meet our health document submission deadline of July 31. For your convenience, I have included links to the required documents below: - Preparticipation Medical History form
- Preparticipation Physical Exam form
- Concussion History form
- Maryland Department of Health Immunization Certificate (please see the Maryland Vaccine Requirements here)
- TB Test Result Form (for international students only; please read the form for details)
- Medication Administration Authorization form (if your child routinely takes medications)
- Emergency Action Plans (only complete the one(s) applicable to your child; do nothing if these do not apply to your child)
a. Allergy Action Plan b. Asthma Action Plan c. Diabetes Medical Management Plan d. Seizure Action Plan
COVID-19 Vaccines: Students will be required to be up to date with their COVID vaccines for the upcoming school year. Please note that in order to be considered up to date with the COVID vaccines, one must have completed their primary series AND received their COVID-19 Vaccine Booster when eligible. Therefore, please ensure that your child receives the required COVID vaccine booster when eligible. COVID-19: Now that our campus is mask optional, we still encourage our campus community to remain vigilant regarding their health. We ask that everyone on campus report the onset of COVID-like symptoms to the Infirmary, wear a mask, and promptly take a Rapid COVID Test in an effort to minimize the overall impact to our campus. Students and employees who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 may take a Rapid COVID Test at least 5 days after the last known exposure to the positive person, or sooner if they become symptomatic. Tests are available in the Infirmary. | The Weekend Ahead This weekend focuses on cleaning, relaxing, and preparing for exams. The library is open longer; however, there will also be meals out, a movie run, and flag football. The highlight of the weekend will certainly be our senior directed one-act plays. On Sunday, all boarders will be cleaning and packing up their rooms in preparation for the end of the year. |
