Greetings from the Dean's Office!

We have an action-packed weekend ahead.  With both prom and the annual pilgrimage to Hershey Park happening, this is a weekend that many of our students have been looking forward to for sometime.  Festivities kick-off on Friday, when we will operate on a modified Thursday class schedule (classes will end at noon) so that the students who are attending prom will be able to get ready.  At 5:15, the school community will gather at Kemp Hall and on Senior Circle for Mock-tails and pictures. At 6:00, students attending prom will make their way towards Alumni Hall where charter buses will be waiting to take them to Press Room at The Herald Mail for prom.  Students should return to campus at approximately 11:15 PM.

Some important dates to keep in mind:

May 18 - Prom

May 25 & 26 - Brigadoon

May 29-June 1 - Exam Week

June 2 - Prize Day & Baccalaureate

June 3 - Commencement

If you are the parent of a boarding student who lives nearby, I would recommend that you start coming and collecting items from the dorm that your student may no longer need.  The more you get out in the next few weeks, the easier move out will be on June 3.

Lastly, I encourage you to read the end of the year letter from Mr. Batson, which can be found here.

Sincerely,

Steve Lachut
Dean of Students

IMPORTANT NOTES

From the Assistant Headmaster:

For the coming school year, all book purchases can be made through MBS, an online seller.  Once a student's course selections are approved, he/she may purchase next year's books through MBS (as of June 3).  You are under no obligation to purchase through MBS, but all books for a course can be viewed on the MBS website.  You can use the ISBN to make your own purchases, but you will notice that MBS has done the work for you in terms of offering less expensive alternatives.

Be sure to read the buyback rules before purchasing from a source other than MBS.  MBS offers extensive information about their program here.

This link will allow you to establish your account, or you may have your son/daughter do this directly – I can help him/her at school.  I am available to the students for the buyback program during exam week.

Please note that we will no longer offer book purchases at the School.  Students will need to order through MBS or use the ISBN provided on the MBS website.  Books ordered through MBS may be shipped directly to Saint James and picked up during Welcome Week in August.  Please note that Summer Reading is also listed on the MBS website.  All Forms have summer reading requirements through the English department, and several AP classes also have purchases that need to be made.

I suggest that after clicking the link above, that you begin with "Need to Learn More."

From the Arts Department:

Saint James School will present Lerner and Loewe's Brigadoon on May 25th and 26th at 7:30pm in Kellam Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, available at the door and online. Tickets may be purchased here  or at stjames.edu/Brigadoon. Please join us to celebrate the hard work of the cast and crew.  Learn More

From the School Store:

Sixth Formers will be going to "Cash Only" starting Monday, May 28th for school store purchases. This will include their Graduation Tie purchases which are $45. If they want them charged to their school store account they must purchase it before the 28th.

Show your Saint James pride! New items, including a special 175th anniversary t-shirt, are available for purchase in the online SJS School Store.  There is also a selection of sweatshirts, polo shirts, jackets, coffee mugs, and children's apparel. Go to www.SJSschoolstore.com to check it out!

From the Parents' Association:

We know it is hard to believe, but as the year winds down, our Annual Fund is still under way!   It truly is participation that makes this drive a success.  Please help us reach our 100% participation goal.  Every gift is appreciated and makes a difference in the lives of our students. Make your gift online.

We are winding down our volunteer needs with a two opportunities remaining.  Our final cookie day is upon us and our teacher appreciation committee also has one last celebration this year as well.  All of the details are on our volunteer site. If you are interested in helping, please check us out at iVolunteer
