PARENT NEWSLETTER

Happy Halloween!

Greetings from the Dean's Office!

Happy Halloween!

This is one of the days on campus that our students and faculty all look forward to, and our alumni remember fondly.  Today we saw the characters from Toy Story, Holes, Star Trek, Wreck-It-Ralph, and many more TV shows and movies.  We also had students dressed as teachers, and some great inspiration and wit shown by all. It is truly a fun day for everyone.

As fall begins to turn to winter, this is a great time to check-in with your student and his or her advisor about how they are doing.  There is a week and a half left in the marking period, then we have our first trimester exams.

On Monday, we have campus-wide field trips which are sure to provide an enriching experience for everyone. Second through Fourth Form students are heading towards D.C. Our Second Form students will go to the Dulles Air & Space Museum, the Third Form is off to the National Gallery and the Natural History Museum, and Fourth Form will be heading to the Holocaust Museum.  The Fifth Form will be going to Gettysburg Battlefield, and the Sixth Form will be going to a ropes course in Sandy Spring, Maryland.

Sincerely,

Steve Lachut
Dean of Students

IMPORTANT NOTES

From the Academic Office:

If a student is to arrive late or miss school, a phone call or email must be placed to Mrs. Martirano (jmartirano@stjames.edu) or Mrs. DeWeese (adeweese@stjames.edu).  Please refer to page 20 and 33 of the Handbook for policies regarding the reporting of an absence or late arrival.  Teachers do not need to be contacted as Mrs. Martirano and Mrs. DeWeese will get the word to the teachers.

The last exam of the trimester is the G block exam (which ends at 11:00 am on November 16).  Please make travel plans accordingly as exams will not be moved for early departures.

Don't forget to login to Blackbaud frequently.  In the Resource Board and in the calendar are postings about events (your child's report card is here, too!).

From the Admission Office:

Current day students that are considering converting to boarding (during this school year or for next year) should reach out to the Admission Office prior to Christmas.  Availability is limited and not guaranteed based on space in the appropriate dorms.  If you have any questions, the Admission Office is here to help!  Don't hesitate to email admissions@stjames.edu or to call 301-733-9330 ext. 3004.

It is hard to believe but the re-enrollment process is almost upon us.  Please keep an eye out for an email with important dates and deadlines.  A general timeline is:

  • November- applying for financial aid (November 30 deadline)
  • December- discuss converting from day to boarding
  • January- reviewing and signing electronic enrollment agreement (Jan 31 deadline)
  • March 1- advanced deposit due

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the Admission Office at 301-733-9330 x3004 or admissions@stjames.edu.

From the Director of College Counseling:

The November 1st deadline is fast approaching.  Sixth formers applying Early Decision or Early Action with this deadline need to make sure they meet with me to go over their application and supporting essays.

Even if sixth formers do not have a deadline on this date, they should aim to submit the majority of their regular decision applications before the Thanksgiving holiday.
