Greetings from the Dean's Office!

Last week was a very eventful week for the Saints athletically.  The wrestling team hosted the annual Admiral Holloway Tournament, in which the team finished 5th out of 13 teams.  The Saints were let by TJ Quelet, who won his weight class and Jason Kim who finished second in his.  Not to be outdone, the girls' basketball team won their opening season tournament at Berkeley Springs, landing three players on the all-tournament team: Christa Bartlett, Morgan Moseley, and Skylar Treadwell.

This week, sports continue at their usual fast winter pace, but we also start to receive some holiday cheer from the fine arts.  This Friday night we have our annual Fine Arts Winter Soiree in Kerfoot Refectory, which begins at 7:30 PM. Our many talented musicians and singers will share holiday-themed performances with the yuletide setting of the Kerfoot fire place.

Next week, we have our services of Lessons and Carols, and the the following Thursday we will be treated to the Second Form presentation of A Christmas Carol.

We officially begin Winter Break on Friday, December 22 at noon.  All students must depart campus that day; if you have any questions please let me know.

Sincerely,

Steve Lachut
Dean of Students

IMPORTANT NOTES

From the Parents' Association:

A big thank you to Laura Zimmerman and all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly on Saturday to decorate campus.  It looks absolutely beautiful!  If you would like to help decorate the chapel, the Chapel Committee is seeking your help decorating for Christmas the weekend of Lessons and Carols on Saturday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel. It is a fun and festive activity and we welcome anyone who wants to contribute their decorating skills!  We should have everything completed by 11:30 a.m., depending on how many volunteer.  Please call Judy Fishkin at 301-992-4507 for more information.

We are also very grateful to Mr. Topham for bringing up his authentic Louisiana Gumbo for the Holloway Tournament.  We sold out!  He and his gumbo will be making the trip up north again for the SJIT, so if you missed it, you have another chance to enjoy this delicious treat.

Volunteers are still needed at a few school events until the end of 2017. We will be adding a few concession dates in December, so please be sure to check the volunteer site in the next week. There will be a junior basketball tournament on December 27. If you are in town, please consider helping for a couple of hours to help represent our school to dozens of local families who will be on campus for tournament! The SJIT is February 1-3 and we will need many volunteers to make the tournament a success! Be sure to save the dates.  Sign up to volunteer.

Our Annual Fund is still under way!  Please help us reach our 100% participation goal.  Every gift is appreciated and needed to make this drive a success.  If you are able and willing to help with the phone-a-thon tonight, we would love to have you!  Please contact Tim Almany (tdalmany@yahoo.com) or Jan Welty (janelwelty@hotmail.com) if you would like to help.  If you are unable to help make calls, please just be ready to take the call tonight and help us make day two better than the first one!

Our next Parents' Association meeting is on January 28th at 1:00 p.m. in the Biggs Refectory Board Room.  All are welcome!
