October 30, 2020 PARENT NEWSLETTER Greetings from the Dean's Office!
Astronauts, Dinosaurs, and Monsters - oh my! Although there are many obstacles to finding or making the perfect costume in 2020, our students did the best they could today. I think it illustrates the impressive resilience of the teenage spirit. We did have our usual number of students wearing a jersey and claiming to be a "football player" or "basketball player" but we love them just the same. Be sure to check out photos from the day.
Unfortunately, after consideration of both the COVID data in Washington County and the weather this weekend we will not be having parent visitation. As always, if you need to drop something of for your child, please feel free to do so at Alumni Hall.
Sincerely,
Steve Lachut Dean of Students
IMPORTANT NOTES From the Assistant Headmaster:
The first official grading report should be available by November 4. This is our first quarter report since moving to a semester schedule. Initial test runs have not revealed any problems, so we do not anticipate a delay. You will find the reports under the "Progress" tab in Blackbaud once grades and comments are posted. If you are not able to access grades, it generally means there is a "hold" because of a question from the business office, but be sure to reach out to Mrs. Martirano if you have a question about access.
For all students, permission must be received from the academic office if you are going to miss a class. We are aware of the students who are in distant time zones and cannot attend afternoon classes, but it is never appropriate for online students to simply miss a class without an explanation. Taking a school day to travel to see friends or family is not appropriate nor is the casual day off acceptable. We have only 170 days together in the classroom, so please plan to be in attendance.
We have an adjusted schedule next week to allow everyone a bit of a chance to catch their breath. Classes will meet in the morning only. After lunch, chapel will meet followed by an earlier athletic period. The more open afternoon will allow the students some much-needed rest, and the teachers and administration have an opportunity to gather to discuss topics in their areas. We will look to model this same approach in the spring when we have a very long stretch without a March break or Spring long weekend.
As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Marc Batson QUICK LINKS Saint James School |
