April 9, 2021 PARENT NEWSLETTER Greetings from the Dean's Office!
With less than a quarter left, things feel a little different around here. I'm not sure if it was the day off (and pizza truck) on campus Monday, or the goat in the Senior Circle on Tuesday, but it seems spring, or at least the excitement of spring, has returned to campus.
Our fall sports season wraps up this weekend with Boys' Soccer and Varsity Football visiting Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia on Saturday. Many of our students have turned their attention to spring sports starting last Thursday. Our Girls' Lacrosse team kicks off spring competition with a scrimmage against Mercersburg Academy tomorrow, while the rest of our spring teams start competition next week.
The other big event next week is the Spring Musical, which you can read more about below.
To follow up on Father Dunnan's email from earlier today, please note that we are asking second through fourth form boarders to depart campus Friday, May 21 after Prize Day. Students should plan to not depart any earlier than 4:00 pm and international/distance boarders may depart on May 22. All fifth and sixth form boarders are expected to be on campus until after Commencement on May 23. Again, international and distance boarders may stay on campus until noon on May 24.
Lastly for our boarding parents, please be aware that we are closely monitoring the COVID metrics in Washington County and the surrounding areas and, if things do not improve, we may pause weekend check-outs as early as next weekend.
Sincerely,
Steve Lachut Dean of Students
IMPORTANT NOTES From the Assistant Headmaster
Don't forget that Quarter 3 grades and comments are available in Blackbaud. Once you sign in, click on your child's name in the upper left corner; find the "Progress" tab; under "Performance" click on "Report cards"; click on "Q3 Report card."
A reminder that day students are to remain on campus until the end of the school's academic day. We must know at all times who is on campus and who is not. In the event of an emergency, accountability for all students is a must, so please do not leave us in a position of wondering where a student is located. Unless a day's schedule is adjusted, the school day ends at 3:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and 2:30 on Tuesday and Thursday.
Preliminary scheduling for returning students is nearly complete. Mr. Harry has been busy with the classes of 2022 and 2023; Mrs. Zawie has been working with classes 2024 and 2025. Over the next two weeks, we will enter the proposed courses in Blackbaud. Once that process is complete, we will send directions so that you can review the course selections and have the appropriate conversations if there are any questions.
Picture day portrait galleries have gone live! Premium pricing will be available until April 14th, 2021. Students have received an email with their proof and a link to order the pictures. Students have been instructed to forward this email home. Orders are processed every 3-5 business days and will be shipped directly home to the parent. If you do not receive the link, or if you have any questions, please contact the photographer at info@irvinsimonphoto.com or by phone at 410-654-0300. From Fine Arts
We are excited to showcase all the hard work our students have put into this year's production, Little Shop of Horrors. The show will open to the students and faculty of Cohort A, and day students on Friday night, and the students and faculty of Cohort B will be able to attend Saturday night. Unfortunately, we will not be opening the show to the general public this year, and due to copyright restrictions we cannot record the show.
