Ms. Charmant 's Anatomy students have been studying health and wellness throughout the school year. Yesterday, the science students had the opportunity to put their medical skills to the test by providing health care screenings, shoulder massages (to reduce stress), and wellness information to the Saint James student body during a lunchtime Health Fair. From blood pressure testing to an eyesight "exam" to engaging games and information about heart health and the prevention of various diseases, the Anatomy students were able to impart their knowledge in a very hands-on (and often, entertaining) way. See the photos, below.
The idea for a Health Fair was inspired by Ms. Charmant's interest in medicine and by the importance she places on community engagement. "In many communities, health fairs are an important (and sometimes the only) way for residents to access health care," she said. She was eager to give her students the opportunity to communicate their knowledge in a way that would serve the
Saint James School community and help them understand the importance of making health care accessible to everyone. Her students, and their "patients," many of whom waited in lines to receive valuable medical tests, called the event a "huge success.
